John joined Gair & Brahe, the predecessor of Garland Hawthorn Brahe Lawyers, in 1980. He became a partner in 1984 and is the Head of the firm’s litigation practice. He has practised exclusively in litigation in all jurisdictions.

John’s enjoyment of litigation work stems from its involvement with people and facts, with an understanding of both being essential for success in this area of law.

He has extensive experience acting for banks and other financial institutions in finance matters, contractual and other commercial disputes, particularly in enforcing securities to maximise recoveries for clients.

John has also been involved in basketball administration since his appointment as a director of Victorian Basketball Association and Basketball Stadiums Victoria in 1991.
